The Bible actually describes two kinds of membership in a church.
The first happens at the moment you receive Christ (John 1:12). The Holy Spirit baptizes (identifies) you into the body of Christ and therefore you become a member in His Church. It is eternal and unchanging.
(I Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 2:13-22).
Secondly, the Bible also urges us to participate in a specific local assembly in order to exercise our spiritual gifts and build up one another. (Hebrews 10:24-25; Romans 12:4-8; I Corinthians 12:25-31; 14:12,26).
We therefore take identifying with a local church very seriously. Membership and participation in a local body is God’s blueprint in serving Him, His body, and the lost world around us.
