The Living Room, Hope Chapel Maui

Aloha Church Family,

We have so much to give praise to God for as we begin the last quarter of 2019. I am so excited to see how God will work in and through us as we seek to strengthen our relationship with Him through prayer in our 40 Days of Prayer series. I can’t think of a better focus for us as a church as we enter our 39th year of ministry. In fact, one of the Elders’ main areas of prayer is the future of our church and our desire to be debt-free.

Our Goal to Become Debt-free

In April of 2006, we held the very first service in our new auditorium on this amazing 18-acre campus. Since then, we have seen Jesus change countless lives and bring hope to more families across the island than we could have imagined! We purchased the land for the unbelievably low sum of $630,000.

By God’s grace, an entire generation of faithful givers pledged to the Vision of Hope campaign to get us to that first service in the new building. The total cost was just over $14 million; by God’s provision and the generosity of His people, that balance is now down to $5.4 million.

Over the past few years the Elders have been actively praying and seeking the Lord as to how we can reduce or eliminate our mortgage debt. We are happy to report that these prayers are beginning to be answered. Earlier this year we received a planned gift of $500,000 towards the retirement of our mortgage!

Possible Expansion of Hale Mahaolu Ehiku

In addition, we have entered into an agreement to sell a portion of our undeveloped land (the southern-most part of our parcel) to our current neighbor Hale Mahaolu, along with a development group who is partnering with them.

Hale Mahaolu is meeting a great need in our community by providing affordable housing for the elderly in South Maui, and they are seeking to expand by creating even more affordable units.

While it is still in the early stages, if this sale proceeds and is finalized in the coming 12-24 months, Hope Chapel will be able to pay off the mortgage and we will be debt-free! And when the land sale is completed, we will still have over 3 acres of undeveloped land remaining for future growth and ministry.

You’re Invited to a Special Meeting on October 20th

As the developer goes through the planning process, Hale Mahaolu has reached the stage where they are ready to share the plans with the community by notifying all immediate neighbors of the proposed development, as well as hosting a community meeting in the coming weeks.

We wanted to share this news with our church family first, before the community meeting is held, and ask each member to pray for God’s will to be done as we seek to become debt-free and continue to reach our community and world for Christ.

On Sunday, October 20th at 6:00pm in the Living Room, we’re hosting a meeting for Hope Chapel members. Join us as we seek God’s best for the future of our church and His work here on Maui!

Better Together,

Ben Prangnell
