DAILY DEVOTIONAL: Mila

We love this devotional from our 'Ohana Groups & Missions Intern, Mila Espinosa. Check it out!

UNITED PRAYER: A famous prayer from Sir Francis Drake

This is a famous prayer by Sir Francis Drake, written back in the 1500’s. It is a powerful prayer and a beautiful submission for us today. It draws us into humility and reverence. Wherever you are, seek to pray this during our time in quarantine. Pray it over your life, your family, your community, & all the earth. Let these words be true to you, ask that they would take deep roots in your own heart. Let this prayer be your own prayer, in the presence of our God:

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
with the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push back the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.

This we ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus Christ.

Amen!

FAMILY RESOURCE: "Minute to Win It" Games

Here are some fun Minute to Win it games!

Cereal Puzzle

What You Need – 1 Empty Box of Cereal

How to Play – Cut up a cereal box into small pieces and see who can reassemble it back in 1 minute. Tip – I used a pencil on the back to draw out my pieces before I cut it up.

Chopstick Pick Up

What You Need – 2-3 Sets of Chopsticks (depending on the number of teams/kids), two paper plates for each team, and a bag of candy. Some ideas for candy: Colored marshmallows, Skittles, M&Ms, Candy Hearts, etc.

How to Play – Give each team two plates with 20 pieces of candy on one plate. Have the players move each piece of candy to the other plate using chopsticks in under a minute.

Tip: It is easier for younger kids to pick up squishy marshmallows with chopsticks. M&M's & Skittles add a little more difficulty.

Cup Stacking

What You Need – 42 Solo Cups

How to Play – First, split cups into two groups (21 each) and have two children compete against each other. Kids have one minute to stack the cups to create a pyramid then unstack all of the cups back into one pile. Use the timer on your phone and write down the time that they finish. When all the kids are done, look at the times to find your winner. Add more cups if you want to have more than two kids compete at the same time.

Tip When stacking cups up, don’t press them tightly together or they can be hard to get apart.

STORY OF HOPE - Janae's Story

JANAE'S STORY | God's Provision
From Ben Prangnell

"Yesterday I bumped into Janae Lopez and her daughter in the water and got the chance to ask her how she was managing as a single mom in this season. Her answer was so encouraging to me personally! She explained how blessed she was by our weekly grocery giveaway and how great the food was. Janae was able to refer other families in need to receive help and was also able to also distribute some of the food to her neighbors. She then went on to say how much of a blessing it was to volunteer last week sorting the food to set up for the weekly food distribution. Her heart to help others is so evident.

Afterwards, Janae shared how grateful she was for the knowledge that she gained from Hope's Financial Peace University class. She explained how she had always wanted to do it after hearing about it for years. This January she took part in the class and was able to pay off all her credit cards! Incredible! She was so thankful and felt that if she had not taken that class and worked the debt snowball plan, she could have potentially been in a more difficult position right now. She praised the Lord for how He prepared her and her daughter in this time. That day we got to pray together in the water and I felt a renewed sense of the true peace of God." -Ben Prangnell

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9
