DAILY DEVOTIONAL: Chris Schmitt

What is the most important thing to you? There are lots of different ways we could answer that, but what does God say that our greatest aim in life should be? Chris Schmitt, who along with his wife Kealani led our marriage course at Hope last month, tells us in this devotional about the most important commandment that we have been given as believers. Give it a listen!

UNITED PRAYER:

Let’s pray for those experiencing homelessness, and ministries that provide for those in need. This is a tricky time for everyone, especially for different outreach ministries who now have to abide by the new guidelines while still trying to reach people in need. Let's pray that God will move mightily and get resources to people who are in need of them.

FAMILY RESOURCES:

JD here! If we haven't met yet, I'm one of the Youth Interns here at Hope. I’m a big fan of food! However, I am not the best at cooking, so I am deeply thankful that some restaurants are still open for takeout and delivery. I thought I’d give y’all some recommendations on restaurants that are still operating and open right now. Enjoy!

Pizza Madness:

I’d hope most people would already know about Pizza Madness, but they definitely make the best pizza on the island (in my opinion). Reid, one of their chefs, is actually a long time Hope Chapel member! He also does a lot of cooking for different events at the church, so you may know him. If you ask, he’ll make you a buffalo chicken pizza or his specialty, macaroni & cheese pizza. If you're not wanting to branch out, they offer most regular types of pizza, including build-your-own, as well as salads & chicken wings. Give Pizza Madness some support during the quarantine! They are still open for takeout and will do deliveries through the Hopper App.

Wing Kings:

Wing Kings is one of the many food trucks around the backside of Azeka Plaza. They serve chicken wings and different types of chicken sandwiches. The specialty changes every day so follow them on Instagram to see what they're offering! Jon Fox, our young adult intern, claims they make the best sandwich he’s ever had (Buffalo chicken and bleu cheese sandwich). Try them out and you won't be disappointed!

Akamai:

Everyone on Maui who drinks coffee would agree that Akamai is their go-to place. I don’t drink coffee but I’m often there at least three times a week, so don't worry, they have options for non-coffee drinkers too. It’s also one of the only coffee shops on Maui with a drive through! This coffee shop uses 100% Maui coffee & roasts their own beans. Akamai has locations in Kihei, Wailea, & Kahului which are all open for takeout coffee & snacks right now. If you haven’t checked it out yet, definitely take a morning or afternoon to enjoy a delicious cup of Maui coffee!

Check back for more options next week! We'll be doing another blog post of our favorite places that are open for takeout/delivery!

STORY OF HOPE: BABY JAMES | Jenna's & Daniel Jimenez's Story of Hope

"Praise our Father for this baby boy! What a crazy time to have our first baby (seriously, face masks were not in the original birth plan). While enjoying this time at home with baby James, we have been given an enhanced perspective on our identities as children of God. We love James more than anything in this world, and it is so awesome to know that God loves us infinitely more. God has been teaching us that we will never have to live without His love and that He loves us even when we hold onto that anxiety or try to control our every circumstance. In His love, He is patient, kind, forgiving, and comforting; all things that we strive to be for James. While we navigate these new waters called parenthood, we will continue to give God praise for being such a perfect Father, and pray that He would shape us into His likeness."

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” 1 John 4:7-9
