God’s Protection (The Lord’s Prayer)

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 6:13

Audio of Sermon (MP3)

Matthew 6:9 "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 'Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread. 12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.']
Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
1 Corinthians 10:12; Matthew 26:41; James 1:13-14

“To err is human. To blame it on the divine is even more human.”

Genesis 3:11

“ENTICED” (deleázō)
“baiting a hook or setting a trap with bait”
Temptation often takes a legitimate desire…a legitimate need…
and tries to get you to fulfill it in the wrong way or at the wrong time.

Detrick Bonhoeffer in his book entitled “Temptation"
describes the process of how a Christian gives into temptation.
“With irresistible power desire seizes mastery over the flesh. All at once a secret,
smoldering fire is kindled. The flesh burns and is in flames. It makes no difference
whether it is sexual desire, or ambition, or vanity, or desire for revenge, or love of
fame and power, or greed for money. Joy in God is extinguished in us and we seek
all our joy in this foreign creature.

At this moment God is quite unreal to us, he loses all reality, and only desire for this new creature is real. Satan does not here fill us with hatred of God, but with
forgetfulness of God. The lust which is aroused envelopes the mind and will. The
powers of clear discrimination and of decision are taken from us. It is here that
everything within us rises up against the Word of God.”
That's the source of temptation. It’s all about us being carried away and enticed by our own lust.

James 1:15 "Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death."
Satan is a very patient fisherman. He’s in no hurry to get you. He’ll wait 40 years to find the right bait to entice you to bite!
Genesis 4:7  "Sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must
master it."
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he
does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
God provides us with all kinds of support to withstand temptation:
1. THE SPIRIT OF GOD
Ephesians 1:13 “In Christ, you after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of
your salvation, having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.”
Galatians 5:16 "But I say walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." (sinful nature)
2. THE WORD OF GOD
Romans 8:6
3. STAY AWAY FROM AREAS OF WEAKNESS AND BAD COMPANY
Two very effective instruments of deliverance! Our 2-FEET!
2 Timothy 2:22; Proverbs 4:14-15
4. PURSUE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS TO BE ACCOUNTABLE TO.
"pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." 2 Timothy 2:22
2 Corinthians 10:4 “For the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds."
Do you know what a stronghold is? It’s a “secret sin.”
13  "For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen."
This prayer is all about God -- His glory,  His Kingdom and His power.
When you say your “Amen”, it doesn’t mean you are disconnecting with God. “Amen” means "So be it”. And you go out and start your day.
